Family Week, Day 1

Image
The Pinnacle Overlook in Holtwood, PA one of the most stunning views I have seen in the greater Delaware and Susquehanna Watersheds. This lake was created by the creation of the first hydroelectric dam on the river. I saw one fishing boat go around the wooded island while my family and I were eating a late lunch at the picnic tables. We should have gotten lunch here, in the heart of downtown Lancaster, this is about thirty minutes north of the Pinnacle overlook and a great place to get fixings for your picnic. We brought food from home since I couldn't remember what the make up of the stores was like. The Central market has a good mix of raw ingredients and prepared food. They have charcoal grills at the Overlook too so you can get really fancy if you want. Lots of good shopping in the immediate vicinity. This is the door to the Lancaster Visitor center the people who work here are very knowledgeable about the areas tourist attractions. I walked in and asked for a place wi...

New Castle County Delaware Dam Removal

Image
As one of the oldest industrialized parts of America the rivers of wilmington need to be freed from literally centuries of dam construction. I can think of at least 5 partially ruined dams along the various creeks that feed into the brandywine, some of these dams are effective barriers to the various fish populations. I believe that without the dams that the quality of the riparian recreation will increase throughout New Castle County.

Politics, don't make me turn off comments!

I support Hillary Clinton for the Presidency of the United States of America! She is the only person running who is even remotely qualified and of the correct temperament to command the most powerful military the world has ever seen. I believe that she has learned her lessons from the adventurous and foolhardy interventions in Libya, and Iraq, I hope her eight years in office will be marked by a strong commitment to multilateralism and diplomacy.

Work, Time, Desire

Image
Well at least I thought I might have injured my back but really it was just a pulled muscle and a few trips to a physical therapist they taught me a couple of stretches that really helped with the back pain and now I feel a hell of a lot better, plus I also learned a few occupational safety things, when I am doing inventory at the store I need to remember to work on both sides of my body, I lifted 50 pound boxes of wine on the left side of my body for four hours in a row and hey my left side hurt for two weeks, shocker, I also need to work on the right side, if I had used both sides evenly I doubt I would have hurt myself. This is a video I took at biddle point, it took about half hour to film, most of it was waiting for something to happen. It also proved to me that to get this shot I really need a camera more sophisticated than a galaxy note 4 cell phone to get a nice video of the sunset. Which neatly brings me to the desire portion of the title, I would love a decent point and...

Rockwood Walk and Talk

Image
I am starting to get an idea of what I want the VLOG portion of my youtube output to be, I still have long way to go when it comes to making content that I am really proud of but I am starting to feel around the edges and come to know the shape of the product I want. I am thinking that I need to research good stories about the places I walk through to tell my audience about. While I am doing a lot of these at the moment I am going to return to the stuff that is more directly related to my job soon enough. Next week I am going to be giving a speech about the london gin craze and an early attempt at prohibition.

Train Ride to Philly

Image
So what isn't talked about in this video is that I took the train up to philly to go to the vintage wine tasting, where I had a lot of fun, and drank too much. This is the great challenge at these big 'professional' wine tastings, they do provide spit buckets but you might not be able to get to them easily enough to make it seem like spitting (while the right thing to do) is too difficult. So hopefully my liquor store is going to be the exclusive source of white girl rose in Delaware. I can't believe that wine brand didn't make a bigger splash here but then I am also not surprised since I am maybe the second youngest wine buyer in the state.

The Brandywine Creek in Wilmington

Image
This is a photo of the Washington Street bridge and the Brandywine Creek in downtown Wilmington Delaware. I went down to the creek to shoot a youtube video, and I was successful in that but I did realize that I cannot just go and wing these walk and talks. I need to come up with a plan and then execute it I only managed to get a 2:45 video out of a hour long walk and at least 20 mins of raw footage. I am starting to get better at the filming portion of the skill but I still need to pause more between expressed ideas I talk at about the right speed maybe I could get a hair faster, but I need to figure out how to have a coherent topic and perhaps even a structure to the discussion. Hopefully, by this time next year an hour long walk will make at least a ten minute video.
