New Year!

Image
So yeah I can jog now, I managed a couple of 10 minute miles right out of the gate, and I proved that I can get at least a mile and a half down the road in fifteen minutes if I have to, would like to be able to turn in a sub thirty minute 5k soon, of course in order to do this I am going to have to go out there and get a couple of jogging and walking 5ks in. Today I managed thirty minutes of walking and jogging averaging a heart rate of around 160 bpm which is sort of between tempo and threshold for me assuming my max bpm is around 180. Last year around this time I was harboring delusions of doing a 100k walk/jog on the C&O canal towpath in april. Which is one of the oldest 100 kilometer foot races in america. Anyway that isn't gunna happen. I am fine with this maybe someday. Lots of attainable athletic goals for this year.

Such an easy joke I just had to make it. Been going on a lot of walks these days, honestly it's easier to dress for this weather and daytime temps are hovering around freezing so not all that motivated to get on a bike and go fast. I found this little bit of stencil work on a stoplight control box on a northern exit to the neighborhood.

I like it.

I like my new bike, while I wish I had some easier gears on the bad boy it really is an upgrade from my frankenroam. I just wish I didn't have to ride in 38 degree weather.

New Bike!

I bought a new bike on black friday from the urban bike project of Wilmington, Its pretty rare these days to see a bike come up for sale in the local market that will fit a guy my size, so I snapped this up almost immediately after it went for sale. I would like to thank Brent Phillips for finding it on craigslist and telling me about it! It is a very fun ride and while I am going to replace the handlebars, and drive train for something a little more modern than downtube shifters and that huge drop handlebar its fun to ride around town, I haven't tried out any of the more serious hills outside of town but I think that I can grind my way up most of them in 45 21 at least I hope so.

Happy Thanksgiving

Picture of my cat Scout. A view from a pier in Lums Pond, New Castle County, Delaware. Lums makes a super convenient turn around point for a southbound bike ride. with large segments entirely off road, but I am also going to explore riding more directly on the streets in southern New Castle County. They seem pretty lightly traveled and are gently rolling.

Multiday Delmarva Bike Tour

There are a lot of ways to do the ride. A five to seven day day trip where most days are below fifty miles. A three to four day trip with most days close to one hundred miles. All of these days end at state parks with camping and fees below 40 dollars for overnight camping.
